Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

3.5 miles. Hood Route. 26:42. 7:37 pace. Last mile -7:10. 9:15 am start time. 90 Deg., 62% hum. 75 DP.

1:15 pm. (after church and lunch) 2 miles with Tommy. He says he wants to run a 5k with me. I told him we'd talk about signing him up after he could run 2 miles without stopping. today was his 2nd attempt at the distance. We did 2 miles today through the trails by the soccer fields. He stopped for a drink once, Stopped to pee once (and MAN did he have to go!), and stopped for a very short time, after he tripped over a root. Anyhow, he did WAY better than I expected.

Track-form-fixing workout. 2:15 pm start. 2 mile up. 2x200 @ 75% w/ 200 AR. 2x100 @ >75% w/ 100 AR.

Then the sun destroyed me, and I stopped. That's enough for today.

You got a little of everything today! Great job!

How old is Tommy? Sounds like a good day (other than hot sun).

Tommy is 8. He seems pretty serious about this 5k business. We'll see. We're not signed up yet. I read this article in running times sunday morning, and then talked to the boys about it before we ran. It had an amazing effect.

Sounds like Tommy's ready to go! That's a great little article. My biggest challenge with Brayden (my 6 year old) has been convincing him to run slow. He runs like a cheetah. :) After supper tonight I "read" this article to him. I think he finally has it figured out. We'll find out! Thanks for sharing the article.

Sun destroys everything. Awesome that the boys are into running.

From Tom K on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 06:46:29 from 174.58.4.250

I wish I could have posted the entire article. I haven't found it on the interwebs yet. it's in here, somewhere:

http://m.runnersworld.com/rt-back-issues/back-issue-september-2013

1st day of school Monday. Tommy said he ran 12 laps around the basketball court during recess for "training" (his word). Good job squeezing in a run, boy! If he ends up talking about running as much as I do, I think Spouse will just snap.

Joe: I'm taking this thing with the sun personally. I need to show the sun who is boss!..... (or just run at night)

BTW, I have been having trouble adding a few folks as "favorite blogs." Flatlander, Matt S, and Jake K end up giving me someone else. I'm missing something.

From SlowJoe on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 07:14:29 from 24.32.57.229

you have to go to their page and see what their web address is, then add the part that comes before .fastrunningblog.com

like "jkrong" for Jake or "thurm" for flatlander
