Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

6 am start. 7.5 miles. Hood route to the legacy trail and back. About 5 degrees cooler. Still with the humidity.

Then after church. 4 miles on the trails with Tommy. Then an hour of basketball with Johnny. We did an hour yesterday also. Tryouts are tomorrow. I want him to be confident.

5.5 miles. hood route. 6am start. Something below 70 degrees. Yes, it felt like fall.

So on Saturday night, when the temps droppped like 5 degrees to put us in the low 70s, my buddy decided to build a bonfire. One of the conversations was - If you were a major league baseball player, what would your "walk-up' song be? I think I have this narrowed to 3:

1. Blur - Song 2

2. Win Win - Victim

3. Local H - All right (Oh yeah)

7.5 miles. Hood route to legacy trail and back. 6 am start. Warmer today, still humid. I wanted a 6 mile tempo this morning. (Right now, I'm counting anything beating the 8 minute man as "tempo".) Last night I made dinner choices that go against this goal (3 chili-kraut hot dogs and a bowl of black cherry ice cream). So this is what I ended up with (and honestly, it's not as bad as I thought it would be) 0.75 up. 1 mile in 7:57. Emergency bathroom stop at McDonalds. 2 miles untimed, 3 miles in 23:03 (7:41 pace), 0.75 down.

7.75 miles. Hood route to legacy trail, over SWOM bridge and back. 5:40 am start. 60 deg. 91% hum. 57 d.p. chilling? misty wind. coldest run in a very long time. other than another stop at McDonald's (seriously, they might refuse entry for me if this keeps up), things were clicking along this morning. nice even cadence.

Johnny had tryouts forthe middle school basketball team on monday and tuesday. We have been playing a lot of basketball as build up for this. This morning, we found out he made the team. So we're all pretty stoked about that.

16.25 miles. Hood route to the legacy trail to Circus Bridge and back. Cooler, but windy. The wind beat me up a bit. There was a 5k in the middle of this run. Some of the people in the Turkey trot recognized me and said that I should be racing. Not ready yet. I didn't know there was a race today either. This is the first time I've seen a race in Venice, that didn't run by the pier. Something different.
