Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

3.5 miles. Hood route. 7 am start. Like summer. Then church. Then lunch. Then an hour of soccer with Tommy. Then an hour and a half of fairly intense 3 on 3 basketball with Johnny. I'm beat. It's Miller time.

I don't know where running is going for me these days. I still hurt, but not as bad as last week. It stinks having a non specific leg injury. It would be so much better to have something with a name. You know like shin splints or I.T. band, or whatever. But having an injury that only hurts when I run is also problematic. It makes it too easy for docs to just say just stop running. I can function as a human being. Which seems to be the acceptable thing in a neighborhood full of 70 year olds. But I want more than being able to get from my house to my car and from my car to my job. I need to run. The doctors don't get that. I have no doubt that what I have can best be described as an overuse injury. But because it is so vague in the description of the injury, the treatment of that injury is also vague. And that is really frustrating.

So I won't be signing up for any races for a while. And I'm going to continue to run when I can small distances at slow paces. And eventually I hope this thing shakes loose, and I can get back to racing. But that doesn't look really possible in the short-term future.

3.5 miles. This was the best run I have had in a while. Not entirely pain - free, but I think I made it through it without limping. This is promising. Starting to see the light here.

Oh, and in more important news, Boy #2 made the middle school basketball team. He's in 6th grade. (31) 6th, 7th, and 8th graders tried out for 13 spots. He has been walking on clouds ever since he got the news.

We have soccer games Saturday and Sunday this weekend. So schedule craziness again.

Longest run in a month! 70+ degrees and foggy! I was thinking of going for 7.5, but I decided to hold back. I could feel my left hip tightening up a bit. I found 20,000 votes while I was running. They are like everywhere down here. You go out running, and you are going to see a gator, a snake, an Armadillo, or some lost ballots. It's just Florida.
