Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

10.2 miles Legacy Trail to Colonia and Back. 7:30 am start. 1:20:26. 7:53 pace. 52 deg. 58% hum. 57 d.p. I wore a shirt.

After church, I tok the boys for their last test tri before the race next weekend. To Floridians, the water was cold. But we roughed it out anyway. Since I didn't want to do this whole thing twice today, I let Tommy set the pace on the bike, as long as Johnny could set the pace on the run. (Johnny is pretty fast on the bike, and Tommy is pretty fast on the run) This worked very well for keeping us together as a group.. Both boys were equally frustrated with each other.

Next Friday is packet pickup for the kids, plus a Glow Run. Then we watch a movie outside, with the sunset over the beach. It was very cool last year. These REV3 folks have this figured out. Then Saturday morning is the kid's tri. So I'm going to get junk for miles next weekend. We'll see how this plays.

3.5 miles. Hood Route. 5:45 am start. 26:30. 7:34 pace. 68 deg. 83% hum. 63 d.p.

6:15 pm. At track. 1 up. 8x400 w/ 2 min. rest. All less than 1:22. 2 down. I picked up 3 seconds on last week! The ones that dipped below 1:20 were rough.

Big moon + light coming off of next door's baseball fields = not running the track in the dark. That was nice.

PM: The boys got a complimentary "glow run" entry with their kids' tri admission. Since I would have to leave early, we went in separate cars. I went with boy #2. Spouse went with boy #1. We got there first. We got out of the car, and they were counting down to start the race! Boy #2 jumped in right after the start, and was right in the thick of it. I yelled for him to save his energy for Saturday, but I doubt he heard me. Then Boy #1 lined up at the starting line with a bunch of other people for the 1 mile "Fun run". What the...? Oh no! Boy #2 was in the 5k! He went by us at half way, and I told him what was going on. He said he was going to finish the race. I ran the 2nd half of the 5k with boy #2. He finished just fine. Running on the beach was rough, again. But the sunset made it worthwhile. Boy #1 finsihed his race, and then they put "Frozen" on the movie screen. Spouse watched the movie with the kids and I left.

So, boy #2 ran his first 5k Friday, by accident! Everyone had a good time.
