Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

We were running in the same conditions. Hopefully you had a little breeze!

A runner in our group started a mild panic when he emailed out his registration number was 29,000 - we all thought it was about to sell out. I have no idea how that number relates to how many runners have registered, but it is good to get confirmation it was only 4,000 yesterday. Don't get too worried.

I hope they don't fill too quickly, I already booked my room. :-)

Maybe they are giving numbers in reverse, meaning there are 29,000 slots left?

From I Just Run on Tue, Sep 10, 2013 at 12:23:15 from 67.79.11.242

Oops...I just went and read the article. It looks like they only have 18,000 slots left. (22,000-4,000)

I have given in to the fact that my time will most likely not be good enough.

I do question the math of all of this, though. Out of 36,000 spots, if 4500 went to those who didn't finish last year, that leaves 31,500 spots. If there are only 22,000 spots for actual qualifiers, that means they are giving out 9,500 spots for charity, which would be much higher than normal. So when BAA says they are expanding the field by 9,000 runners, they do not mean qualifiers, correct? Something seems off about this.

From Tom K on Tue, Sep 10, 2013 at 12:32:09 from 174.58.4.250

Okay, I found the math. They are expanding the number of QUALIFIERS by 400, not 9,000.

"In normal years, roughly 80% of entrants, or about 21,600, are time qualifiers. For 2014, "we are preparing for a 70/30 ratio, with 22,000 of the qualifier field coming through the open registration process," B.A.A. spokesperson Jack Fleming told Runner's World Newswire."
