Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

I only have to share the road with a few dead skunks, opossums and such. Pretty lonely where I run!

Dead skunks, huh? Hmmmm. I get snowbirds milling about without any sense of their surroundings, with dogs on 20' leashes, and you get dead skunks. IJR, if I could run your track, I would. I can at least count on a dead skunk to not have unpredictable movements.

That's funny about the dogs on 20' leashes, I get those too. I tend to worry more about the dogs on 20' leashes than the dogs without leashes since it's not difficult to justify pepper spraying an angry dog with no leash.

Ha Ha! So, you're saying I should run while packing heat? And if Fido gets in my way, well, then...

Wait, that's why I complain about it here. I don't want to be "that guy."

Eventually my running log would read like:

"xx miles, xx:xx time, x:xx pace, Trucked 2 pedestrians, maced 3 dogs, trampled 5 geckos, great sunset, smooth run."

From Ken Bess on Thu, Nov 08, 2012 at 11:35:13 from 174.52.148.34

Who said anything about if Fido gets in your way? You've got an interesting way of interpreting.

I've never pepper sprayed a dog or a person, but if the dog were attacking I wouldn't hesitate. I've been bitten twice, allowing that to happen a third time would be foolish. It is very easy to distinguish a dog that is going to bite from a dog that is friendly. Spraying a dog with pepper spray that will wear off in 15 mins is a lot more humane solution than going into the dog and breaking its ribs. The first time I was attacked by a dog it was a dog on very long leash that latched on to my thigh. The owner was more angry at me than at their dog for attacking me. An attacking dog with no leash is a clear cut situation, an attacking dog with a leash is not a situation that I would like to ever find myself in again.

Sorry, man. Just a joke. Less funny than I as hoping for, but just a joke.

The thought of actually getting bit by a dog never crosses my mind, because it's never happened to me (and I'm sorry that it has happened to you). I'm more worried about getting tangled in the leash. Again, I'm sorry if I offended you.

No worries, I'm just being overly defensive. =) I should have responded better.

From I Just Run on Thu, Nov 08, 2012 at 12:14:53 from 166.137.119.44

Cut the leash, then shoot the dog...then everything is justified:............JUST KIDDING.....!

Great. I was actually going to ask you some questions about your Dr. Jack D. post, if that's okay.

From Ken Bess on Thu, Nov 08, 2012 at 12:35:14 from 174.52.148.34

Ask away! I'm just starting to understand the principles but I'll do my best to answer.
