Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

7.5 miles. Hood route to Legacy Trail and back. 5:45 am start. 1:05:45. 8:46 pace. 72 deg. 94% hum. 70 d.p. Emergency stop at halfway. I'm glad there is more home building going on around here lately.

I just signed up for Birmingham Marathon. The kid's marathon program they have is really interesting: https://bcbsal.acms.com/mercedes2015/ The kids keep a running log for 25.2 miles, then run the last mile on race day. Sounds really cool, I think.

6:15 pm - At track. 2 up, 6x800 @ 3:00 each, 1 down.

The kids marathon is a pretty cool concept - have seen it a couple times, but thought, nah...they won't stick with it. Maybe soon. Sounds like your boy(s) could do it though.

Nice 800s!

Getting the kids excited about running is one thing, getting the kids excited about logging miles....man, I don't know. maybe.

thanks, joe. It has been way too long since I've been at the track. I needed this.

I've seen that kids' marathon thing a couple times, too. Pretty neat! Good luck with the marathon. Seems like a good time for one - plenty of time to recover before a spring marathon [in Nashville :)].

Nashville? I'm going to have to look at that. Right now, I am considering the Flying Pig. (and slightly regretting backing out of Savannah.)

nice -- i have never seen a kids' marathon like that. neat idea.

birmingham, nashville, flying pig -- i have to look into all of these. if you have any other suggestions, i would love to hear them. i have no idea what is going on.

I thought the kid's race was different, too.

I was looking at Savannah Rock and Roll November 8th, but then my training went to pot, and I decided not to do it. It is Very Flat. Flatter than Louisiana, and I loved Baton Rouge.

What is going on is: in the "winter" - ALL OF THE RACES! In the summer - nothing, but heat induced apathy (phrase credit-SlowJoe). I imagine the season is quite different than what you are used to. I can't wait to see what you come up with over here!
