Short-Term Running Goals:

2023 GOALS:

Coastal Delaware Running Festival Marathon - 4/16/23 - Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

I didn't have high hopes going into this race. A box of ceramic tile fell on my left pinky toe on Wednesday night, so I couldn't run Thursday or Friday. Since most of the swelling and blue color had gone away, my plan was to go out there and warm up, and see how things felt. Warm up felt okay. I was aware of the toe, for sure, but not really in pain. I didn't start my watch at the start of the race, so I was lost for pace. The kids they had at the "1" and "2" mile stations were saying some ridiculously fast numbers (5:55, 11:40). I knew they were incorrect in the times they were calling out. I passed people for the first half mile, then pretty much locked into my pace for the rest of the race. I was passed by a guy with @ 70 yards to go. I was really surprised about my time. 19:17, 6:13 pace. I ran this race last year and got 21:01. So the improvements this year have been huge. My family is pretty excited about me winning a plaque, instead of a medal. Masters division winner? Totally unexpected.

I have a 10k next month, that I am considering breaking my right pinky toe for.

Wow Tom...!!!! Great race. Amazing to improve that much in a year. I'm going to break all my toes now :-)

Apparently, toes only slow you down! Who knew? I told my family not to come out to the race, because I anticipated a poor outcome. When I came home, I was greeted with a "McKayla is not impressed" look.

All of the local fast guys must have slept in and missed the race Saturday.

Anyway, YOU'RE BACK! Did you have to log "snorkel miles" on your cruise?

From I Just Run on Mon, Nov 19, 2012 at 13:22:45 from 67.79.11.242

I'm impressed!

I should add snorkel miles, hiking miles and kayak miles as I did a lot of each :-)
