Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

Sore heel. I'm taking a couple of days off. This is different than the Achilles nonsense i had back in December. This pain is more at the base of my right heel. I don't think this is a direct result of running the track, although I knew it was enough of a problem to cut my cool down run short. I hope to do a short run tomorrow to test things out again. Man, once again, the timing is okay, as long as this goes away quickly. Every race, two months out, i have to catch the injury bug. Dadgummit!

I had that once - I never truly figured out what is was either. Ended up loading myself up with NSAIDs and running on if after sitting for awhile and it slowly went away...your mileage may vary of course...

Found it - 9/10/2010 is where it starts on my blog if you get bored

I just read WAY too much of your blog in 2010. Great job on handling the pity-cheers in the satellite MCM you were unwittingly running, BTW.

It does sound similar. Mine feels like someone hit me at the back of the lowest part of my heel with a stick. We do have that push-off pain thing in common, for sure. Your description of it feeling like a bruise is spot on. I am discouraged that this affected you for about a month, and hope I can bounce back sooner. Although, other than not running for 2 days, I haven't been doing anything to fix it.

If I stretch my right calf, like I am about to go for a big run, I can walk without a limp. I do this when I get up from my desk at work. The last thing I need is to provide ammo to one of those people that thrive on telling runners that their legs/feet/hips aren't going to be worth a flip, if they keep doing what they love. So I never let them see me limp. Ahhh, I'm just angry at my situation, not the haters.

Thanks for making me read that, Joe. It's nice to know that this will end eventually.

Oh yeah - the MCM-Iraq...brings back memories!

I hate the haters at the office. 250-lb guy: "See, that's why I don't run - it's not good for you."

Hopefully yours won't require that much time off. I looked back and I now remember the meloxicam being a wonder drug. That was my first marathon buildup and I was getting hurt left and right. I think I am a little less cautious with things now and might've returned to running sooner, but the extent of every injury is different...

Hope you work through this quickly.
